Learn more about Content Pack I - Advanced Combat Rules - Mind's Vision

When you back NOMADS Unbound, you don’t just get the core box — you secure extra adventures and exclusive content. The campaign is almost entirely funded, but we still need your support to cross the finish line and bring the Limited Collector's Edition, extra artwork, and other elements to life. Since the base game is already finalized and ready to go to the printer with the same quality you saw in The Legacy of Cthulhu and Infaernum - Extreme Role-Playing Game, we continue to work on finalizing the digital goods in the meantime to offer a full year of content for the game. In this update, we will delve a little deeper into the first one.

Advanced Combat Rules

The base game comes with terrain and character standees to help players visualize complex scenes. Since the game doesn't require a Game Master figure as the single source of truth, having physical aids can help players understand all the intricacies and possibilities of a scene, keeping everyone on the same page. These can add significant value to campaigns that run for an extended period, feature numerous characters, or involve complex combat situations, even when you are playing solo.

Remember, NOMADS Unbound is a game for lightning-fast actions, so a lot of times, simple combat situations can be resolved quickly and without the need for many rules or tactical considerations. However, with the Advanced Combat Rules booklet, you will be able to fine-tune your battles, adding more strategy and precision, without slowing down the base system. With these extra rules, you can add tactical movement that considers line of sight and even the possibility of using 3D terrain, very similarly to a wargame like Warhammer or video games like Final Fantasy Tactics or X-Com.

The module also offers an enhanced initiative system, making confrontations more unpredictable and introducing additional plot twists. You can mix and match both modes in play, using the standard combat rules for minor clashes, and switching to the tactical system for larger encounters when much more is at stake.

Because NOMADS Unbound spans the multiverse, you can use anything as props — from minis of other games and RPGs to toys on your shelf. Our current focus is on delivering lore-driven miniatures and standees that tie directly into the larger narrative, while leaving room for your creativity and resourcefulness. We will also provide templates so you can create your own PnP standees.

It is important to note that you will still use the same basic deck of cards to play this way, just with different rules and setup, so you don't need to keep switching decks every time you get into battle. That's another essential point to ensure that the action flows without many interruptions.

What else?

So, if the Advanced Combat Rules use the same deck of cards, what are the other cards announced? Great question! Creation Cards are custom decks thematically linked to each Content Pack. They build on the base game’s tables and act as event modifiers for you, the kind of twists that change how a scene unfolds without you having to make an effort to imagine your own doom. In Content Pack I, these focus on combat: a gun jams, a car explodes, or an enemy reveals hidden exotic gear.

As we release more Content Packs, your collection of Creation Cards will grow, and you will be free to use them even with other Content Pack themes or just the base game. As long as your setting and campaign align, the more you can add, the more unpredictable your journey will be. We expect that each Content Pack will add at least 30 new cards to your collection.

Content Pack I includes:

  • Advanced Combat Rules booklet (optional systems, tables, and settings)
  • 30+ Creation Cards (combat-focused event modifiers)
  • 4 double-sided terrain cards
  • 5 premade lore characters (STL for 3D print + paper sheets for PnP)

Backing NOMADS Unbound now means this content is already yours, and you will also get the Advanced Combat Rules booklet in physical form if you get the Limited Collector's Edition. Content Pack I is part of all pledges, and future packs — Desert Rats, The Hollow, Multiverse Heroes — will continue expanding your worlds across 2026. Waiting means paying more later and missing the chance to shape the game as it evolves, as you can see by our polls. If you’ve been on the fence, this is the moment: the core game is ready, the roadmap is locked, and Advanced Combat Rules is just the first of many expansions coming your way.
